NORTH THAILAND DISCOVERY RIDE 2013-2014
(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT2_zps5f87eeea.jpg)

The usual long run up the 1st 3 days thru Hatyai-Hua Hin-Chiang Mai...

4 Bikers
1. Eng Chye (Lead BMW GS 1200)
2. Tongkat (BMW R1200R)
3. Lawrence (ST11)
4. Spectrum (Cross Tourer)

Always Nice to stop by the Golden Bird of Huahin...
But that's about another 100km to Huahin.. Much closer to Prachuap Khiri Khan

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT3_zpse381d058.jpg)

They Close up the Jetty to Bikes ....
So.. we walk up for some cool sea breeze...
But manage to get a pic near the sea....
The King of Thailand was in his Summer palace in Hua Hin..
Not too far from where we were...

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/thailandMap01_zps317d798b.jpg)

This is the 7000km route we rode...
Simply it is 3000km up to Chiang Mai and back from Sukhothai..
3 days up & 3 days down..

Rest of the time was relative short distances across North Thailand
Across, around mountains... and valleys..
That's about 1000km across...

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT7_zps9eb4f086.jpg)

CHIANGMAI

Wow! We rode for a pic by the Old Castle Wall..
And Surprise!
It's all dress up for a Marathon..
And we have quite a few runners from Spore that we happy to meet us...
The run was schedue for the next day
And they were there to register and collect their goodie bag...
It would be like 16c when they start before sunrise the next day... Brrrr....

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT6_zps4f485e61.jpg)

NIGHT MARKET

The Night Market at Chiangmai has grown since I was last there 2 yrs back...
And why not.... Nice cool weather with plenty of adventure around the city...

A hearty breakfast comes with the room.

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT12_zpsf4bb6a1b.jpg)

The Cross Tourer had a great time eating up the bends....
And now...
The Coffee Stops are so Attractive...
U wouldn't know it's Thailand if I just should u the pic below...
And the also serve Great Coffee!

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT8_zpsfc0e7f1d.jpg)

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT18_zps522df487.jpg)

Very Thai Village Dishes... At low down tables and chairs...

The hotel is upside down... Ha Ha...
And it's FALLING!

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT14_zps5885e310.jpg)

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT32_zps0cba98e6.jpg)

We met up with Michael & Co...
And had a early New Year Bang!

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT33copy_zps36b5b1b4.jpg)

MAE SALONG

We headed for the Mountain Village where the Kou Ming Tang (Chinese) live.s
Plenty of history for this tiny village.
The escape for communist China...
A few thousand troops of the Nationalist Army took refuge here.
Helped the Thais defeat the Communist terrorist...
Now given citizenship by the King of Thailand.
Some went to Taiwan... but the majority stayed.

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT47_zps074032be.jpg)

Dealed in drugs but now Olong Tea...

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT45_zpsf0754e87.jpg)

Has some of the steepest roads in Thailand!

Chinese food...
And Caught up with Palmer...
He had some Rear Suspension problems in Chiangmai...
But the GS a tough bike!

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT53_zps0785a906.jpg)

The Cup-Kia is the Main Mode of transport...

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT50_zps114c814e.jpg)

Oh Yes... the Wan Ton Mee stall is still on main street..
Pretty much like the Fei Fei Mee in Joo Chiat...

SUNRISE in MAE SALONG
is beautiful... and I just had to come out of my room for the view....

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT37_zpsfeed965f.jpg)

This resort is about 100m walk behind this sign board.
Use to be the Main Military base when the army was active...
but the road is very steep to the resort...
So may not be the best place to stay...
We stayed behind 7-11..
So convenient...

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT41_zps31782888.jpg)

Petrol comes in measuring containers above the Fuel Tanks...

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT39_zpsba953cc7.jpg)

And the Village Butcher is just next to it...

A visit to the Memorial is a good way of knowing their history
Beside it being one of the Major building in Mae Salong.

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT57_zps26f04e55.jpg)

So we head on down the mountain to Chaing Rai..
And visited the Beautiful White Temple
Just 13km south of Chiangrai... by the main road..
U really don't want to miss it if u are around there....

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT77_zpsdd62707b.jpg)

And so there was more country roads to the Nan District
Sorry the screen is not big enough to accomodate the entire mountain..
U need a 54in monitor... ha ha..
Or be there....

Did some Off road at the SAND DUNE of Nan!
Looks pretty rough..
Was out at the Main Road deciding whether to ride or walk in..
When I saw a scooter coming out..

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT90_zps8dfb3e72.jpg)

As the journey goes...
We will be encountering a Very rough Road...

Sort of a short cut!
And
But Eng Chye GPS is great... Always on the right track & destination! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/helmet.png)

Interestingly,
This route 1339 includes a water crossing...
The ride down to the ferry and up the otherside will be a challenge for the road bikes.

Met this group from Chiangmai on rented bikes
Not bad.. 1500baht a day for a Versy Kawa
And a guide thrown is with support vehicle.

This was a fantastic discovery!
Heading away from the initial destination of Phu Chi Fa..
We were on this road to Chiang Kham...
And Wow!
Never had I seen so many Sun Flowers in my life! And in Full Bloom!
Eng Chye was Elated!

(IMG:http://i990.photobucket.com/albums/af24/spectrum2200/2013/NT70_zps4ce4688d.jpg)

OK.. It's 20 Baht to enter the little dirt track to be in the Garden..
But we were more than happy to be outside...

Just before we bump into the Sun Flower Hill..
Orignal plan was to visit Phu Chi Fa...
Border town to Laos... Know for it's beautiful sunrise above the clouds.
Unfortunately, the hill road there was in a bad state..
Pot holes and loose gravel all over the place...
Plus very steep and curvy climb...
So bad that stopping along the slope would mean a topple...
After a third up the mountain.. we decide to turn back...
And head for Chiang Kham.

This pic was the lower part of the road...
Which was better...
