Recently, I've been jumping around shops to shops looking curiously for top cases for my bike. I've gone and tested from Hepco and Becker to Shad and to me, all of these cases look pretty sleek and practical but the most important question here how secure or how good it the baseplate for these cases ?
(IMG:http://www.munichmotorcycles.com.au/images/products/main/Journey%20TC%2042%20(Small).jpg) Hepco and becker has probably a strong reputation to their account for making toughest cases but there are some flaws to it. They leak. The hinges can easily get loosened over a year. They slide a little when you mount them as top cases but that shouldn't be an issue. I had a pair of junior side cases and these panniers gets flooded everytime there's a heavy downpour. A friend of mine who had the junior top case had the same issue when it actually leaked from a screw that secured the top silver panel. And of course you can find some other related issues aswell at ATAsia. For the price, I'm sure many would want at least a decent case that would do a good job. They relatively alright but not to that extend that will put me into consideration purchasing them. So they're out. (IMG:http://www.everythingbutbikes.com/product_images/u/pimage_302__60052.jpg) Next, the most sellable cases of all time, the Givi case. brilliant. Reliable. doesn't leak(at least the top cases don't). So far, I've not heard these cases shattered for even crack. They're pretty tough aswell. The only thing is it's a bit flimsy don't you think ? They look good though especially V46, and It's nearly $300. I'm using the Givi E36N as side cases and no problem there. Top cases are good but the quality intend to degrade faster than the Hepco. They come with a standard universal base plates and they're fairly ok. Other than that, they're pretty funtional. Infact, 3/4 of the riders out there choose Givi over any other brands. So that makes them superior and they're cheap too. (IMG:http://www.motorradgarage.com.au/catalog/images/S48%20Astra.jpg) Now here comes a new brand probably started out 2 years ago, The Coocase. When I heard of the name Coo -case, I thought these cases must be made of cheapskate, low quality built stuff. I was seriously wrong. These cases looks really solid. strong. Not flimsy, but they're slightly heavy(I you compare to givi ). The quality suprisingly top notch. The base plate comes in two sizes. standard for the smaller cases and a wider angle for the large case. I have no idea where they're made from. So i went home and did some research, and this is what I found : Coocase Test: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxA0aSOfVBE Coocase introduction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhGErg8lYpk And so I bought them and I couldn't be any happier. They're pretty good. Inexpensive. The only downside I could think off is they may not have many choices/models but I think that's not an issue because the models that are available right now, are just perfect. They currently don't make side cases. This review was written according to my personal experience and some research which I've done through the net. |

Their prices are reasonably tagged. I paid $130 for the Basic S48 matt black version. They have the luxury version aswell which comes with intergrated backlight, remote keylock and alarm and finally an inner liner cushion. I don't know how much that would cost. |

You are right Endlessloop. I had trouble sleeping just thinking which will be my next top case. Finally the search is over and I'm pretty happy about the coocase.
Hi Anodise57, yes i have heard they'll be releasing two models soon. These are truly intelligent cases. For some riders, the extra added features may just be a so call marketing gimmick, but they really do work. And if it's too much of whistles and bells, there's always a choice of a basic case. Here a picture of the Coocase on me bike. ![]() |

ever thought of pelican cases ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgEefnTeOGU pro: toughest case you can ever wish for order online from US, prices are cheaper than local dealer (even including shipping) con: cant fit helmet as most of them are slim type no mounting rack, have to DIY or order from http://cariboucases.com/ have to use additional pad lock. ever thought of pelican cases ? Yes I have. Infact, at twistedthrottle.com sells the complete mounting kit for the pelican. Yes, they are not cheap. But If I had a Dual purpose bike like AT, Vstrom or if I could ever afford a GS, then the pelican is something I would definately consider. They are tough and strong. Here are some videos about the Pelican cases that might interest you guys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qu5OlfYo6Sc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5aV740roMM |

actually the coocase leaks after a while (mine's after 2 years i think).
it's a design flaw in the coocase: the top and bottom lid's lip isn't overlapping like the givi. they sit on one another with the rubber lining in between, much like hepco's design and the old givi's design. as water accumulate in the middle layer, it can 'climb' the low wall and enter the case due to water tension. |

Aha, I went to Juzzwheelzz and talked to Lenny. We sketched a few designs and finally came up with the one in the picture. Glad you like it. |
